Responsible Pet Ownership: Complying with Bangkok’s Animal Control Ordinance

Responsible Pet Ownership: A Guide to Bangkok’s New Animal Control Ordinance
As part of its ongoing campaign, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is actively promoting the Animal Control and Registration Ordinance B.E. 2567 (2024), which has sparked significant interest among pet owners across the city.
However, some sections of the ordinance have raised questions and concerns especially regarding pet ownership limits, moving residences, and changing pet ownership. Here’s what you need to know to stay informed and compliant.
📌 Pet Ownership Limits Based on Property Size
The ordinance sets clear limits on how many dogs and cats can be kept depending on the size and type of property:
For rented rooms or condominiums:
20–80 sq.m. → Up to 1 pet
Over 80 sq.m. → Up to 2 pets
For land/households:
Up to 20 sq.wa. → Maximum 2 pets
Up to 50 sq.wa. → Maximum 3 pets
Up to 100 sq.wa. → Maximum 4 pets
Over 100 sq.wa. → Maximum 6 pets
⚠️ Already have more pets than allowed?
No worries pet owners who exceed the limit before the law takes effect on January 10, 2026, can submit Form CLS.5 within 90 days to notify authorities.
📌 What to Do When Pet Information Changes
If there is a significant change in your pet’s circumstances, such as:
Change of residence (owner or pet)
Lost or damaged pet ID card (CLS.3)
Pet death
You are required to notify the authorities by submitting Form CLS.4 within 30 days of the change.
🐶 What if your pet goes missing?
In the case of a missing pet, you must:
Report the loss within 3 days of discovery
Report again after the pet is found
